It’s all a balancing act


The amount of foods claiming to be ‘sugar free’ or ‘fat free’ these days is astounding. But just because its ‘free’ doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

Rather than cutting out foods, look to balance out meals with some easy food swaps. Rather than your two pieces of white toast with peanut butter (hidden sugar!) at breakfast, swap to rye bread with an egg.

These easy swaps are small but can make a big difference as it all adds up.

If you feel like eating a:
Biscuit – instead try a banana piece with peanut butter
Soft drink – instead try (mineral) water with lemon or berries
Piece of cake – instead try a small handful of trail mix (nuts and dried fruit)
Hot chips – instead try half an avo with grilled halloumi

Eating out is another concern for people these days. At home it’s easier to control the food around you, but out in the big wide world, there’s all sorts of temptations and hidden sugars. It’s important to understand that it’s okay to indulge in those temptations sometimes, and not be too hard on yourself… Just know that you’ll have to squat twice as low at training the next day to balance it out – that might make you think twice about picking the cookie over the banana!
